There has been a dramatic silencing of the voices that provide our news to us in the last decade. And there has been an increase in our desire to be 'told' what to think and what to believe by TV and radio talent, rather than we seeking our reliable information on our own. As we sit and receive our marching orders, our mind isn't engaged to question or challenge or even validate what we hear. And as the news is repeated every 23 minutes, the repetition can easily be confused with truth.
As the dumbing down of Americans continues we are less likely to read our news, research for truth, or even see the holes in our position. Much to have a conversation with someone that has opposing views (in part because we can only repeat what we have been told) without resorting to anger, frustration, and even violence.
With the rapid fire presentation of sounds, images, and text we are unable to discern truth from lies. Where does that leave us? A question that we need to be able to ask and answer might be: so now what? What does that imply? And, how does that glorify my God? I sarcastically add: why am I listening to this instead of reading my Bible?
There are fewer voices, sharper lies and distortions, and less truth coming from these 'news' rooms. We should be careful of how we hear...
